Saspol Exploration – Alchi & Basgo Experience | Moljoks Heritage:

Wake up to serene Himalayan views and enjoy a relaxed breakfast. Today is dedicated to exploring Ladakh’s cultural heartland.

Saspol Caves: 

Located in Saspol village of Ladakh, the Saspol Caves, also known as the Gon-Nila-Phuk Caves, are five rock-cut temples, of which three are adorned with Buddhist paintings dated to the thirteenth to the fifteenth centuries. The paintings are believed to have been made by followers of the Drikung Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. Of the five caves, Caves 4 and 5 are damaged and contain no paintings, with only caves 2 and 3 still housing a profusion of brightly-coloured murals. The paintings at Saspol are significant as the images are exemplary of Buddhist art made at a time when the influence of the Kashmiri style was waning, and the influence of the central Tibetan style of painting was growing.

Alchi Monastery-A Living Museum of Ladakh: 

Nestled along the banks of the Indus River, Alchi Monastery is one of Ladakh’s most treasured cultural landmarks and a rare surviving example of early Himalayan art. Dating back to the 11th century, this ancient monastic complex is renowned for its exquisitely preserved Indo-Tibetan murals, wooden carvings, and intricate sculptures, making it distinctly different from other hilltop monasteries of Ladakh. Unlike most gompas, Alchi sits at a lower altitude, allowing visitors to explore its artistic heritage in a calm, immersive setting.

What truly sets Alchi Monastery apart is its stunning fusion of Kashmiri, Central Asian, and Tibetan influences, visible in its detailed wall paintings that narrate Buddhist philosophy, mandalas, and celestial deities. Often described as a living museum of Himalayan art, Alchi offers a quiet, contemplative experience where history, spirituality, and craftsmanship come together. A visit here is not just sightseeing—it is a journey into Ladakh’s artistic soul and timeless spiritual legacy.

Return to Saspol by afternoon and spend time immersing yourself in village life or simply unwinding at the heritage property. Evening spend time around the community bonfire with Chang tasting(local barley wine).

Day 4

Nubra Valley – Siachen Base Camp Day Visit (2-2.5 Hours/83 Kms):

Visit to Siachen Base Camp – A Journey of Courage and Extreme Landscapes:

An early morning departure from Nubra Valley takes you through stark, awe-inspiring terrain towards the legendary Siachen Base Camp, the highest battlefield in the world. As the landscape shifts from green valleys to glacial expanses, the journey itself becomes deeply moving. At the Siachen War Memorial, pay homage to the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers who serve in some of the harshest conditions on Earth. The experience offers a rare insight into life at extreme altitudes, leaving visitors with profound respect for the resilience of the armed forces and the raw power of the Himalayas.

Panamik Hot Springs – Healing Waters of Nubra Valley:

On the return journey, stop at Panamik Hot Springs, known for their naturally warm, sulphur-rich waters believed to have therapeutic properties. Surrounded by rugged mountains and serene village life, this peaceful pause allows travelers to relax and rejuvenate after a high-altitude excursion. The contrast between icy winds and warm mineral water creates a unique sensory experience, making Panamik a soothing and restorative highlight of the day.

Yarab Tso Lake – Nubra’s Hidden Sacred Gem:

Later, visit the secluded Yarab Tso Lake, a small yet mesmerizing high-altitude lake tucked away above Panamik village. Reached by a gentle uphill walk, the lake is considered sacred by locals and remains untouched and tranquil. Its crystal-clear waters reflect the surrounding mountains and sky, creating a meditative atmosphere perfect for quiet contemplation, photography, and moments of stillness amid nature.

Evening Community Bonfire – Cultural Connections Under the Stars:

As evening sets in, return to your lodge for a community bonfire experience, where warmth, stories, and local culture come together. Gather around the fire with fellow travelers and local hosts, enjoying traditional Ladakhi hospitality, light refreshments, and cultural exchanges.
